Phelicia Lang

Phelicia is a dynamic literacy leader, visionary educator, and published author with over 20 years of experience spanning private, charter, and public schools. She is a passionate advocate for early literacy and educational equity, known for developing impactful literacy programs that empower students, engage families, and equip educators. As a master coach and collaborator, she designs systems that nurture a love of reading while building the foundational skills students need to thrive.

A proud Bay Area native, Phelicia holds a Master’s degree in Reading Leadership with a focus on Multicultural Literature. Her work is grounded in the belief that all children deserve access to texts that both reflect their lived experiences and expand their worldviews. This commitment inspired her to found a publishing company dedicated to creating engaging, culturally affirming books for beginning and early readers. Her goal is simple but powerful: “So African American children can say, I see me on the page.”

As a wife, mother of four, and grandmother, Phelicia’s passion for literacy is both personal and professional. Teaching her own children to read during their homeschooling years taught her an essential truth: not all children learn the same way, and there is no one-size-fits-all curriculum. This insight fuels her dedication to individualized, inclusive approaches to literacy instruction.

In addition to her work in reading and writing, Phelicia is deeply committed to exposing children to STEM learning through literature. She crafts stories that embed science-related vocabulary and concepts, offering children a bridge between language and scientific thinking. Her books are not only windows and mirrors—they are gateways to STEM exploration, particularly for students who have traditionally been left out of these spaces.

Through her work as a literacy coach, author, and publisher, Phelicia is changing the narrative. She helps students read well, think critically, and see themselves as capable, brilliant contributors in both the world of words and the world of STEM.
